Story of the Name Novi

Novi is in Michigan, and was incorporated in 1969 as a city, this was after it had been approved following a charter that was created by the village voters. Elections took place on May 20, 1968, approval by voters was 695 who were in favor and 283 were against. The town got its name in 1832 from the Farmington Township. Dr. J.C Emery, a resident, made the suggestion to his wife, because the residents wanted a shorter name.
